Upper Limb Impairment Training Development Partnership Opportunity

Rahana Life has a unique and exciting opportunity to establish a working relationship with a passionate, dedicated and self-motivated Occupational Therapist to develop our innovative Rahana Academy training and CPD programme. Initially, this will be through a 40 hour project to develop educational resources and present on Upper Limb impairment at the OTShow 2025.

This role would suit a healthcare professional who wants to work in a flexible way to balance family, work or other interests. If the candidate fits with our team, ethos and way of working, this could lead to a longer-term, part-time and flexible role. This is likely to be a best fit for a practising Occupational Therapist (likely Band 5 or above), but might be suitable for other allied healthcare professionals with the right experience.

Rahana Life are leading specialists in the provision of assistive technology to enable people with little, limited or no use of their arms or hands to retain, regain or replicate arm function. Every day, we witness the huge difference that advanced assistive arm and hand technologies make in enabling individuals to not only become more independent, but to be able to live, work and play more.

Many occupational therapists comment on how little is known about assistive technologies that can support people with upper limb impairments; and yet OT’s play a pivotal role in determining this provision.

Rahana Life are therefore looking to work in partnership with an experienced Occupational Therapist to develop and deliver training on how advanced assistive technologies can support independence in people with upper limb impairments via the Rahana Academy. We want to develop Occupational Therapist led training which answers key questions from the practitioner's perspective.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced OT to be involved in the formation and launch of the Rahana Academy: A clinical and user led knowledge hub about how advanced assistive technologies can maximise independence and improve the quality of life for people with upper limb impairments.

The work is initially for a 40 hour contract on a freelance basis, to cover 3 days of work on developing an initial introductory training program, and 2 days to attend and deliver CPD at the OT Show.

The remuneration for this work will be £1000. The applicant will need to be available to deliver a one-off training session at the Occupational Therapy Show on the 26th and 27th November 2025 in Birmingham. We would also like to work together to extend the provision beyond this event.

The training will cover the following topics:

  • What are upper limb impairments?

  • How do they present and affect and limit people?

  • How do you assess for AT’s and what do you look for (and what symptoms can AT’s help with)

  • What categories of solutions are out there and how do they match people’s needs?

If this opportunity sounds like a good fit, please get in touch for an informal chat via email dina.shah@rahanalife.co.ukby the 25th July 2025. Be sure to mention any specialist knowledge or interests, particularly with upper limb impairments as this will help us. We look forward to hearing from you.
